Glorious Leadership! Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, His Holiness the 14th the Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso, Martin Luther King – all examples of truly great leaders of our time. But what makes these leaders exceptional and sets them apart? A common misconception about leadership is that it can be learned from attending a top university or studying esteemed textbooks that preach techniques of influence, performance, communication and education. However, when we call to mind these defining leaders of our time it is evident that there is something other than academic qualifications that makes them unique. These great leaders do not hold Harvard qualifications nor do they employ textbook styles of leadership. Their extraordinary leadership comes from within, from their internal strength of character. The heart of true leadership has a spiritual center, this is what I refer to as Glorious Leadership! A Glorious Leader inspires respect, trust and loyalty and the desire to achieve in his/her subordinates. The essence of Glorious Leadership! revolves around strengthening our ‘inner self’ which consequently allows our ‘outer self’ to become stronger, more resilient and a better leader. It is the foundation that must be strengthened first, not the façade. Glorious Leadership! applies a holistic approach to leadership that allows strength, energy, purpose, meaning and growth to develop. We are each unique and our success as a leader depends on developing an authentic and virtuous leadership style based on our own individual strengths. Glorious Leadership! is not about trying to develop a generic list of qualities of leadership that is now outdated and redundant. Glorious Leadership! is based on 28 Life and Leadership Virtues – each drawn from four aspects; mental, physical, emotional and spiritual. Taken together, these 28 virtues of Glorious Leadership! form a holistic framework for personal and professional development based on the same foundation established in Glorious Living! (see www.gloriousliving.org) To complement this philosophy and offer practical solutions I have designed a beneficial tool, the Glorious Leadership! Card Set for self assessment and development. These cards allow for self diagnoses of strengths and weaknesses and correspond to sections in the book to offer advice and encouragement for mastering vices and strengthening virtues. Glorious Leadership! is not designed to preach a philosophy but as a practical resource that encourages real results. I have taught Glorious Leadership! to hundreds of CEO’s in dozens of multinational organizations globally. I have even used Glorious Leadership! with a Royal Prince. All the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The most progressive organizations are realizing that old leadership theory is now dated and unproductive and are embracing the holistic approach to leadership to nurture leaders into restoring balance and vitality into their roles as leaders. It is intended not only for corporate CEO’s but anyone who has responsibility for the care and development of other people such as community leaders, school leaders and leaders from all walk of life. |
